Myotherapy

Your treatment begins with a thorough assessment. We’ll discuss your reason for coming in, current symptoms, injury history, lifestyle, training load (if relevant), stress levels, sleep, and any contributing factors that may be influencing your pain or movement. If needed, we’ll also assess posture, joint mobility, muscle strength, and movement patterns to understand the root cause — not just the symptoms.

Treatment is tailored specifically to you and may include: deep tissue massage, myofascial release, dry needling, joint mobilisation, stretching techniques (MET), cupping

The approach will depend on your goals — whether that’s reducing pain, improving mobility, enhancing performance, or supporting recovery (including postpartum rehabilitation).

Active Rehabilitation & Education

Myotherapy isn’t just about hands-on work. Where appropriate, you’ll be guided through corrective exercises designed to improve strength, control, and resilience. This is particularly important for long-term outcomes in conditions such as headaches, tendinopathies, and postural or load-related pain.

You’ll also receive clear explanations about what’s contributing to your symptoms and practical advice you can apply at home — because understanding your body is a powerful part of recovery.

After Your Session

You may feel immediate relief, improved movement, or sometimes mild post-treatment soreness (similar to post-exercise muscle soreness). This is normal and typically resolves within 24–48 hours. You’ll be advised on what to expect and how to manage it.

Every treatment is collaborative. The goal is not just short-term relief, but helping you move confidently, feel stronger, and build long-term resilience.

Pregnancy is a time of profound change. Your body is expanding, adapting, softening, strengthening — all at once. It’s incredible, and sometimes it’s uncomfortable. Your body is not fragile — it is adaptive, intelligent, and strong. But even strong bodies deserve support.

This treatment is designed to help you feel comfortable, capable, and confident as your body changes and prepares for birth.

A Space to Be Heard and Understood

Your session begins with a thoughtful conversation about how you’re feeling — physically and emotionally. Whether you’re experiencing pelvic girdle pain, lower back discomfort, rib pressure, neck tension, headaches, or simply feeling the weight of rapid change, your experience matters.

I take the time to understand your stage of pregnancy, your movement patterns, your daily load, and how your body is responding to it all. Pregnancy is not a condition — it’s a physiological transformation — and you deserve care that respects that.

Supported, Safe, and Strong

You’ll be positioned safely using supportive bolsters and pillows, usually side-lying or semi-reclined. Your comfort is a priority throughout the session, and adjustments are made as needed.

Intentional, Pregnancy-Specific Treatment

Hands-on treatment is adapted to your trimester and tailored to your needs. Techniques are purposeful and considered, designed to:

  • Reduce strain through the pelvis and lower back

  • Ease tension in the hips, glutes, and ribcage

  • Improve upper back and neck support as your centre of gravity shifts

  • Encourage circulation and recovery

  • Create more efficient movement patterns

Rather than “fixing” your body, the aim is to support it — helping muscles and joints work more effectively so you feel steadier, lighter, and more resilient.

Building Strength for Birth and Beyond

Where appropriate, you’ll be guided through simple, targeted exercises to support:

  • Pelvic stability

  • Deep core coordination

  • Glute and hip strength

  • Postural endurance

These are not intense workouts — they are intentional movements that help you feel grounded and strong in your changing body.

You’ll also receive practical guidance around sleep positioning, load management, and daily movement strategies that reduce strain and build confidence.

Because pregnancy is preparation. Every stage is building toward birth and postpartum recovery — and strength now supports you later.

After Your Session

Most women leave feeling more mobile, more balanced, and deeply supported. You may feel lighter through the pelvis, freer through the ribs, or more upright through the upper back. Occasionally there may be mild muscle tenderness, but the overall intention is ease and empowerment.

Scar Release & Rehabilitation

The scar release appointments are designed to support healing and restore comfort, movement, and function following a caesarean birth to other abdominal surgery. Even fully healed scars can create tension or restriction in surrounding tissues, which may impact posture, breathing, pelvic floor function, and contribute to secondary discomfort such as hip, back, or pelvic pain.

During your appointment, I assess not only the scar and surrounding abdominal tissue, but also the breath, ribcage, diaphragm, posture and deep core connection, as these areas can all be affected after abdominal surgery. Using a combination of soft tissue techniques and scar-specific release work, the treatment aims to reduce tightness, pulling, numbness, discomfort and restriction through the scar and abdominal wall, while also encouraging better mobility, circulation and lymphatic flow.

This work is always approached with care and respect for your body and your birth experience. It is aimed at helping you reconnect with your abdomen, breath and core so you can feel more comfortable, supported and at home in your body.

This treatment might be for you if you experience

  • Abdominal pain, pain over the scar

  • Numbness, tingling, hypersensitivity or areas that feel disconnected around the scar and surrounding tissues.

  • Tightness, stretching or pulling around your scar during movement, exercise or daily activities.

  • Restricted Movement

  • Feeling disconnected from the scar area

  • Poor core orientation

  • Trauma from unwanted / planned surgery

Potential Benefits of Scar Release Therapy

  • Improved Scar Mobility & Appearance

  • Reduced Pulling Sensations

  • Supported Core Recovery

  • Improved Breathing Mechanics

  • Reduced associated discomfort e.g. lower back pain, pelvic pain, hip pain
